Pink is a peaceful color. It has a tranquilizing effect on the body, to the extent that in some prisons, inmates are thrown into a room painted a specific shade of pink to calm them down. In sports, the opposing team may be given a locker room that’s painted pink to weaken them before a game. Pink relaxes one’s muscles and calms feelings of distress and or hostility.
Pink is a girly color associated with baby girls. In hospitals, newborn girls are wrapped in pink blankets while the baby boys are wrapped in blue. It is a sweet, soft color. One that radiates innocence and gentleness. Qualities traditionally attributed to women.
Pink is associated with femininity, sweetness and romance. Pink is also associated with warm affection and gentleness. Pink carnations are associated with a mother’s love while pink roses are associated with sweet romance. Not the lustful sort but young love that is pure and sweet.
Yet pink is not a weak color. Women may be the weaker sex physically, but can be stronger in many other ways.
Pink is the color or Woman Power.
CODEPINK is one such example. It is a grassroot movement led by women in U.S. to end the war in Iraq. Mothers and daughters, wives and loved ones of the soldiers sent to war campaign peacefully to end the war, stop new wars and redirect the resources otherwise allocated to war to health care and education instead.
In Australia, the pink ribbon is represents breast cancer awareness. It is, in fact, the official trademark of the National Breast Cancer Foundation in Australia. October 23rd 2006 is Pink Ribbon Day, the signature day of the NBCF. It is all about women taking charge of their lives in their fight against that deadly disease. Pink here stands for Women power.
In Santa Ana, a group of women entrepreneurs gathered together to start Passion for Pink – a campaign to raise funds for Breast Cancer research, education and awareness.
Pink is about women taking charge of the problems in their lives, making this world a better place. So go ahead. Wear pink.
