Increase Singing Power and Stamina

Holding a note in singing is very important either because the song is made for that or you want to impress you audience. But sad to say, many singers are having difficulty sustaining notes because of lack of strength. To impress your audience, you need to be able to sustain long notes with quality and control.

As you already know, proper breathing is the most important thing in singing. With that information, you’ll be happy to know that you can learn to hold those notes by changing the way you breathe and the way you sing.

Identify Your Diaphragm

Your diaphragm is helping you to belt out tunes with power and stamina aside from singing support. To locate your diaphragm, think of the muscle in you mid torso that heavens when you enjoy a good laugh.

Or you cold try exhaling as hard as you can and notice the muscle that squeezes the hardest, that is your diaphragm. That is the muscle that is located just below your ribcage.

Whenever you sing long notes, you will definitely take in enough breath to last you that long for that note and should be expending enough breath to engage your diaphragm. Practice engaging your diaphragm by dinging shorter, lower notes. Once you feel comfortable doing this, move on to longer, higher notes.

Control Your Breathing

After locating your diaphragm, the next tip is to take control of your breathing. Take a deep breath before long notes, but don’t fill your lungs completely. If you do, they might respond by rushing to push out the air. The quality of your sinning will be largely affected.

Here’s what you do, you breathe just deeply enough to expand your stomach a bit. As you sing the note, you release the air sparingly. With some help from your diaphragm, let your vocal chords do the work.

Good Posture is Important

Avoid getting hunched over. It will be very difficult to sing a song, let alone hold a note if you are in that posture. In singing a hard song, make sure to stand up straight and expand your chest. That will help you project the note and keep your breathing under control.

Try this out, practice singing a favorite song with good posture and without, and compare the quality of the sound and the ease with which you can sing the notes. Chances are you’ll hear a big difference when you use good posture.

The ultimate goal is to stand up straight and tall without tensing your shoulders. If your body is tense,
your vocal chords could follow suit, making it much harder to hold a long note.

Start Soft

Getting result might take a long time. Long notes take work, so start slow by singing them softly. Once you get the feel for it, try gradually increasing your volume and breath pressure. You can also try holding a note in your regular speaking tone.
